Self-Hosting

Here is a list of applications I run 100% of the time in no particular order. All of these are only accessible within a WireGuard mesh VPN.

• Audiobookshelf

  • A great audiobook and podcast solution. I managed to get their beta iOS app through TestFlight as well.

• AdGuard Home

  • Nothing against the Pi-Hole team, but this felt much snappier. it also comes with a lot of built in service block lists.

• Beets

  • As I’ve stopped streaming, this helps tremendously to tag and organize my music library after importing CD’s or miscellaneous digital purchases (Bandcamp etc).

• FreshRSS

  • Mostly using the web interface, this has loads of features to help fine tune those pesky sites that are a little more user hostile…

• IT-Tools

  • A recent addition, if you’re like me, I’m not so keen on pasting my text into random websites to perform formatting, validation, etc.

• Jellyfin

  • Finamp on my iPhone as well as Swiftfin Infuse for Apple TV and iPhone.

• Syncthing

  • No Google, iCloud etc.. this does exactly as advertised. two-way sync across my devices to my NAS. Most of what I’m syncning is text-based, so Tarsnap is my offsite backup of choice.

• Librespeed

  • “Free and Open Source Speed Test. No Flash, No Java, No Websocket, No Bullshit.”
